fidel castro meets malcolm x in harlem: 1960

In September 1960 Fidel Castro traveled to the United States to address the United Nations General Assembly. After being kicked out of the Shelburne hotel downtown due to baseless rumors started by the press, Castro’s team of Cuban delegates had nowhere to stay. Fidel said he would set up tents in the lawn of the UN until the owner of the Hotel Theresa on 125th street called and said he would gladly house the Cuban revolutionary leader and his team. When they got to Harlem, Malcolm X was part of the welcoming committee and met with Castro for two hours. some thinking mind had a camera in its possession and clicked a button to capture this moment in time:
