the children’s storefront

Just took the A train up to see the school where we begin:

The Children’s Storefront in an independent, tuition-free school located on 129th Street in Harlem, New York City. Students who attend our school would normally attend their local public school in Harlem or the South Bronx. We are able to provide children from pre-k through 8th grade with a rigorous academic curriculum and an independent school experience. our students all have a strong desire to learn, and we seek to empower them through high expectations, a strong work ethic and an education that takes them beyond their block to a greater world view.

We firmly believe that a lack of finances should not deprive a child of an excellent education. Most of our students live in East Harlem and the South Bronx. 80% of our student population qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program; 95% are Black and 5% are Hispanic. The Storefront is a family, a community and a safe haven. (taken from a brochure)
